The month of May was abuzz with exciting happenings and we are proud to announce that Pac Canopus has been awarded the WELFARE notation under the Maritime Port of Authority Singapore’s Singapore Registry of Ships (SRS) voluntary notation programme. Notably, Pac Canopus is the first vessel to be accorded this exemplary recognition for our distinctive efforts in supporting crew welfare.

SRS Welfare is assigned to Singapore ships that enhance seafarers’ quality of life onboard and mental wellness. This is the second award on top of our recent SBR Technology Excellence win which amplifies our entrenched commitment to employees’ health and well-being. People are at the core of what we do, receiving this award is undoubtedly a strong driving force for us to continue implementing welfare initiatives that will reap meaningful long-term improvements to our crews’ life onboard in the future.

PCL and Singapore Maritime Officers’ Union (SMOU) have inked our commitment to building a future ready and sustainable workforce through job re-designing and the development of multiple pathways for career advancement in the maritime industry. The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on 24 May 2022 will see the formation of a Company Training Committee (CTC), comprising PCL management, union representatives and key relevant partners.

The PCL management and SMOU representatives share a common goal to support workforce transformation and this meaningful collaboration seeks to scale up productivity and operational efficiency through the adoption of new technology and training methods. PCL is happy to be amongst the first movers in partnering SMOU and we look forward to having more shipping companies join the movement to enhance job prospects for the maritime workforce.

As part of Kuok Singapore Limited’s Maritime Group businesses, PCL is excited to share that KSL will join hands with Nanyang Technological University Singapore's Maritime Energy & Sustainable Development (MESD) and School of Chemical and Biomedical Engineering (SCBE) to research on shipboard carbon capture technology for reduction of GHG emissions from ships.

Such private-public partnership is an important element in our Group’s efforts to decarbonise shipping and drive sustainability.
