Mr. Hor Weng Yew, MD & CEO of Pacific Carriers Limited (PCL) has been appointed the new Chairman of the Singapore Maritime Foundation (SMF). The new appointment will take effect on 1 January 2022.
SMF was incepted in 2004 by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) to forge dialogue and collaborations between private and public maritime stakeholders. Over the years, SMF has partnered with the industry to promote Maritime Singapore in overseas markets and to attract talent and new entrants to the maritime sector. It has garnered strong industry support enabling SMF to reach out directly to the community for ideas and initiatives that build and raise awareness of the shipping industry.
As the Chairman, Weng Yew will work closely with the Board and SMF team bringing valuable insights and leadership to advance SMF’s ongoing efforts in strengthening the maritime ecosystem.

PCL is proud to announce that Alvin Lim (Crewing) and Capt. Nolasco (Captain of Orca Pacific) have emerged as the winners of MaritimeSG Care Award organised by the #MPA. This award seeks to recognise maritime personnel who have achieved excellence in care amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. Both Alvin and Capt. Nolasco have gone above and beyond their call of duty showing selfless care and concern to their peers and co-workers during difficult times.
Alvin attended the Awards ceremony and was presented his MaritimeSG Care Excellence Award by Senior Minister of State Mr. Chee Hong Tat. Congratulations to our two winners for bagging these well-coveted awards and let us look forward to more achievements and accolades to come!
In the recently concluded Smart Port Challenge (SPC) 2021, a competition held under a joint initiative PIER71™ (Port Innovation Ecosystem Reimagined at BLOCK71) driven by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) and NUS Enterprise. Mr. Hor Weng Yew, MD & CEO of Pacific Carriers Limited was invited as the Chief Judge in the judging panel to select the winning finalists based on their business ideation and propositions. PIER71™ provides startups opportunities to sharpen their product offerings and make a positive impact with technology in the maritime industry.
