In the recently concluded Smart Port Challenge (SPC) 2021, a competition held under a joint initiative PIER71™ (Port Innovation Ecosystem Reimagined at BLOCK71) driven by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) and NUS Enterprise. Mr. Hor Weng Yew, MD & CEO of Pacific Carriers Limited was invited as the Chief Judge in the judging panel to select the winning finalists based on their business ideation and propositions. PIER71™ provides startups opportunities to sharpen their product offerings and make a positive impact with technology in the maritime industry. PCL is pleased to support this initiative, engaged in meaningful conversations and shared insights with the participants during SPC 2021. Once again, congratulations to the three winners, #WeavAir, #EcoWorthTech and  #SpinoffRobotics and we look forward to seeing more innovative creations in future.

Pacific Carriers Limited is pleased to participate in the Sea Crew Vaccination (SEAVAX) initiative to provide vaccination to the first group of foreign non-resident seafarers. We believe vaccination provides our seafarers an additional protection against the virus as they work tirelessly round the clock amid the pandemic. PCL will continue our close collaboration with the key stakeholders in maritime to champion the safety and well-being of our seafarers.

Rebuilding trust, Relationships and Reputation

Sea Asia 2021 returns as a virtual event this September! On Day 3, Hor Weng Yew, Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer of Pacific Carriers Limited will engage in a panel conversation alongside other shipping heavyweights, centred around the theme ‘Rebuilding Trust, Relationships and Reputation’. Shipping is critical to global supply chain. People and talent make the key difference. As the shipping industry recovers from the COVID-19 crisis, the far-reaching effects of the pandemic are still impacting our people at sea. How can the maritime industry unite to provide support to the seafarers and rebuild the trust as we transition into the post-pandemic world? How should we renew and reenergize shipping talents at sea and onshore in maritime?

Moderated by Paddy Rodgers, Director of the National Maritime Museum, the panel discussion takes place on 23 September, 2.45pm to 3.30pm (SGT) with an exciting lineup:

Mark O’Neil, President, Columbia Shipmanagement

Bjoern Sprotte, CEO, Ship Management, V Group

Andrew Wright, Secretary General, The Mission to Seafarers

Hor Weng Yew, MD/CEO, Pacific Carriers Limited
